Judging at an LFCA-sanctioned event is one of the most important roles in the competition. You’re not just tasting food, you’re evaluating skill, technique, creativity, and execution at the highest level of live fire cooking.
LFCA judges are vetted members of the association who take the responsibility seriously. If you love live fire cooking and want to be part of the official scoring process, we want you on our judging roster.
How it works
LFCA judging is done on site, not blind. Teams present their dishes directly to a group of judges, explain their cooking techniques, and answer questions. Judges score each entry on five criteria: Presentation, Appearance, Technique, Flavor, and Overall Impression using the official LFCA Scoring App.
Every judge is assigned to a group by the LFCA at the Judge’s Meeting before competition begins. You’ll be led through each team’s site by an LFCA Ambassador who coordinates the judging process from start to finish.
What we look for in a judge
A great LFCA judge brings curiosity, an open palate, and a genuine appreciation for the craft of live fire cooking. You don’t have to be a pitmaster, but you do need to show up ready to evaluate fairly, professionally, and with full attention to each team’s presentation.
